WMS CLUBS & ACTIVITIES

offer here at WMS!!

Choir
Mrs. Emily McLaughlin, Teacher

Willard Middle School Choir is a performing group that includes about 130 7th and 8th grade students. It is an all-year class that has a requirement of 4 performances each year. There are two concerts (December and May), a musical, and contest, which includes a trip to Silver Dollar City!

In addition, 8th graders have the opportunity to audition for a smaller choir (approx. 40 students) called Tiger Tones!!! Auditions are held in the spring for incoming 8th graders. Tiger Tones perform more often in the community and for the school (1-2 performances per month), and will participate in all performances with the big choir.



Conservation Club

Members will be responsible for managing the WMS Recycling Efforts as well as planning Earth Day events. The Conservation Club will meet every Friday during advisory to help collect recycled items. The clus is sponsored by Mrs. Paulsell and Mrs. McDowell.


Cook and Create Club
Mrs. Beth Robinson, Sponsor
Cook & Create Club gives you a hands-on opportunity to learn how to make some seasonal foods and crafts. You do not have to "join" to participate in any of the activities, but will need to sign-up before each session so we will have enough supplies to complete the projects. The club requires no money and will meet right after school on Wednesdays until 4:30pm, about once every-other month. See Mrs. Robinson for further details.


Drama Club

This club meets weekly and is for all students interested in theatre, acting, making new friends, or just having fun! We meet every Thursday after school in the Black Box Theatre where we play games, learn acting skills, and let kids ACT up! Drama Club performs two productions every year which any Drama Club member can audition for or help as a crew member on. We also attend theatre workshops, go to area plays, do fund raisers, and have an Awards Banquet at the end of the year. Any student can join! FCA
Mrs. Jennifer Coffer, Mrs. Lindsay Paulsell, and Mrs. Robin Parrish, Sponsors


FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) - WMS Chapter is open to all students. We meet every Thursday morning at 7am for a motivational message and some student socialization! Listen for specific meeting dates on the WMS daily announcements. FCA is sponsored by Mrs. Paulsell and Mrs. Coffer.

NJHS: National Junior Honors Society
Mrs. Cami Jennings, Mrs. Becky Treadway, Sponsors

This is an honor roll for 8th grade students and is an elite group of students who have maintained all A's and A-'s during their 7th grade year. Students do community service activities and fun activities such as bowling, ice skating @ Jordan Valley, haunted corn maze, etc. This is definately something all WMS students should strive to be part of!!



OHHS Club: Operation Hometown Hero Supporters Club

The OHHS club meets every Tuesday until 4:30 pm to promote patriotism in our school, host guest speakers, help plan the WMS Veteran's Day Program, organize and participate in the annual Support Our Troops Rally, and support our troops and Veterans with other various activities.


Meetin times are 2:30-4:30 pm in Mrs. Feldman's room. On all home WMS football game nights (Tuesday, Sept 13, Sept20, Oct 4, and Oct 11) students may stay after school for the OHHS club and football game to help clean up the stadium of which we are doing as a fundraiser

We also participate in the annual WMS Growl Nite as a fundraiser as well as cleaning up the stadium bleachers after the WMS home football games. Proceeds will be going to our new Willard Veterans' Memorial and to the WWII Honor Flight.

   
Peer Ambassadors
Mrs. Marsha Crotts, Sponsor

Chosen as 6th graders, Peer Ambassadors are trained to help the student body by the Conflict Mediation Process to help resolve conflicts. They help new students get oriented to a new school. They also sponsor an annual dance and are involved in other service activities.
This group is not open to new members.


Spanish Club

Spanish club meets periodically throughout the school year. We eat Spanish foods, make crafts like cascarones, watch videos, and study in "salsa sessions". It is open to 8th graders enrolled in Spanish I at WMS.
 
 
W.A.T.T.
Willard Academic Team in Training

We train with our computer and buzzer system by answering questions in science, math, geography/history, language arts, and fine arts. We attended our second competitive tournament where we took 2nd place. Academic Bowl meets every Tuesday after school. It is open to all 7th and 8th graders!

WMS Yearbook

This class is held during 5th hour period and is not an open elective class. Students must apply for the class in the spring when applicatications are being accepted. Yearbook class needs highly dedicated, hard working students that can meet deadlines and achieve frequent goals.
 
  Remember to purchase your 2010-2011 yearbook during summer registration! Yearbooks will also be for sale until the 2nd week of March! Books are $25, with personalization with your student's name and picture on the outside is $30. See Mrs. Loveland to order your book today!!!!
