STUDY SKILLS STUDENTS ARE TO HAVE EITHER HOMEWORK TO WORK ON OR A BOOK TO READ EVERY DAY.

Each day, study skills students have their grades based on:
Having their agendas for each class (other than study skills and advisory) that they have had since the previous study skills class (for example, if a student has 3rd hour study skills, then s/he needs to have 4th - 7th hours from the day before and that day's 2nd hour class filled out)  completed BEFORE the tardy bell rings.
     Behavior
Bringing ALL materials/books needed to class
     Staying on task

Running Club -- This club meets each Wednesday after school until around 3:45.  We may run in town, on the trail, or on the track.  This club will participate in some of the 5K runs in Greene County, such as:  the Sunshine Run (for St. John's Burn Unit), Turkey Trot, and/or Valentine's Run, etc.

Mrs. Barnicle and Mr. Rayl sponsor this club.

Note:  Students that are currently enrolled in a school sponsored sport cannot participate in Running Club during that sport's season.  For example, if a student is in Cross Country, s/he cannot participate in Running Club until Cross Country season is over.

MIT (Men In Training) -- This activity is open to all 7th/8th grade boys, their fathers (or other ADULT male companions), and male teachers.  We will be having an activity scheduled approximately once per quarter.

Future activities may include extreme dodgeball, basketball, big screen TV sports night, video game competitions, and Andy Dalton Shooting Range.

Mr. Germann and Mr. Rayl sponsor this activity.

Note:  The girls have a corresponding activity, GNO (Girls Night Out) sponsored by Mrs. Olson.
ADVISORY

Advisory class is used for taking school attendance, giving announcements, having time for different clubs to meet, watching Channel One news, having time to work on assignments, studying for tests. and doing other activities.  Every Wednesday, students need to bring a book or magizine to read.  Wednesday is  DERE (Drop Everything and REad) day.  ALL students in 7th and 8th grades in ALL advisories are to read (not do homework, etc.) on Wednesdays.

I would appreciate it if each advisory student in my room would bring one box of Kleenex.

About Mr. Rayl

This is my third year at Willard Middle School.  Previously, I taught at Walnut Grove School for 22 years.

My classes consist of advisory, LC math, and study skills.  Study skills is to help students finish their homework and study for tests.  Except for occasional papers that need to be signed by parents or teachers, there is no homework in study skills or advisory classes.  There is often homework in my math classes.

Students also need to have dividers for their folders.  Please have your child bring the notebook to class.  This will be for part of their math grades for EACH quarter.

Students need to have five dividers.  They need to have the following labels:  "Syllabus," "Word Problem Scoring Guide," "Graded Work, " Work to turn in," and "Miscellaneous."

At the end of each quarter beginning with the second quarter, the notebooks need to be turned in for a 100 point grade.  The grades will be based on how complete the above sections are (all papers turned in and in the appropriate sections), being on time, and neatness/organization/assignments in pencil.
